Rides & Attractions
Ultimate Adventures
Ultimate Adventures are for anyone with the nerves to face up to the challenge! Suitable for guests from nine years old upwards and over 1.2 meters in height.
Start your ultimate adventure by catapulting to dizzying heights aboard Whirlwind. Regarded as one of the UK’s most intense rides, before taking to the skies on the Skyrider.
Climb aboard, if you dare, The Black Pearl and feel the momentum build as she gets ready to rotate your 360 degrees through the air. Feel the tight grip of The Eagle’s Claw as it provides an insanely extreme experience before ascending to the tree tops of The Twister.
The Ultimate is Lightwater Valley’s signature ride and provides a thrilling 1.5 mile cocktail of speed, cornering and airtime. Unique amongst modern day attractions, The Ultimate remains the longest roller coaster in Europe with a ride time approaching six minutes.
Finally venture below ground into the world of Raptor Attack’s Abandoned Mineshaft which offers a completely immersive, underground experience, widely regarded as one of the best dark rides in the United Kingdom.

The Black Pearl
The Black Pearl forms the centerpiece of our landmark Skeleton Cove pirate-themed area and is unusual amongst modern pirate ships in that it rotates through 360 degrees. The Black Pearl provides awesome views of the park (for those who are brave enough to keep their eyes open) and a very unique ride experience.
Visible from most areas of the park, this 85 foot attraction is one of only a handful of rides within Lightwater Valley that actually turns you fully upside down. Having more than a passing resemblance to a traditional Pirate Ship, this boat shaped ride swings back and forth, not by the traditional way of a set of tyres below the boat, but with a huge, powerful motor at the top of the central arm.
As the ride picks up momentum, she turns a full 360 degrees before doing the same in reverse.
Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be over 1.4m (1.3m accompanied by an adult)

Whirlwind
Widely regarded as one of the most intense ride experiences in the UK today, Whirlwind is sandwiched between Raptor Attack and The Ultimate and forms an integral part of this adrenaline-pumping triad.
Given their proximity, guests have the opportunity to team this epic ride experience with one of the best dark ride adventures in the country and an awesome hair-raising encounter with the longest roller coaster in Europe.
With one of the best ride operators in the business, Whirlwind is guaranteed to blow you way.
Ultimate Tip: For the most intense ride experience, sit in the outside seat at the end of the row.
Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be over 1.4m

THE ULTIMATE
The Ultimate is Lightwater Valley’s signature ride and provides a thrilling 1.5 mile cocktail of speed, cornering and airtime. Unique amongst modern day attractions, The Ultimate remains the longest roller coaster in Europe with a ride time approaching six minutes.
The Ultimate has 2 lift hills of 102ft and 107ft respectively, which both offer awesome views of the park and epic amounts of both anticipate and airtime. The first half of the ride is widely regarded as the smoothest section, with the second half of the ride (between second lift and the station) providing a truly insane ride experience as the carriage hurtles through some of our deepest and darkest forest en route back to the station.
Loved by the enthusiast community for its honesty, brutality and sheer rawness, The Ultimate owes a debt of gratitude to Lightwater Valley’s founder (Robert Staveley) for his pioneering vision during the early 1990s.
Ultimate Tip: For the most intense ride experience, we recommend sitting in the rear seats.
Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be over 1.3m

THE EAGLE’S CLAW
The Eagle’s Claw provides a smoother ride experience than Whirlwind yet contributes strongly to Lightwater Valley’s reputation as being home to the one of the best selections of “flat” rides in the UK.
The Eagle’s Claw provides an insanely intense ride experience with heaps of air time and is cited by many guests and enthusiasts as being their favorite Lightwater Valley attraction.
Ultimate Tip: Given this ride’s location near the park entrance, the queue line always tends to be longer in the morning and during the last hour before the park closes. Waiting times tend to be minimal during the middle par of the afternoon.
Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be 1.3m. Customers with excessive height or chest measurements may struggle to access this attraction.

RAPTOR ATTACK
Widely regarded as one of the best dark rides in the United Kingdom, Raptor Attack is themed around an abandoned mineshaft and offers a completely immersive, underground ride experience.
Guests queue above ground, but are dispatched in small groups to explore the dark tunnels of this long abandoned mining operation. On reaching the ride platform deep underground, guests are then asked to board a mine cart to further explore this strange subterranean world.
Ultimate Tip: Watch out for the last Raptor as it’s more menacing than its brethren and has someone its claws.
Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be over 1.2m. Customers with excessive height or chest measurements may struggle to access this attraction.

TRAUMA TOWER
This “drop tower” is not as traumatic as it sounds, but don’t be fooled as it punches well above its weight with a good mix of tension, thrills and air time. The ride’s biggest strength is undoubtedly its unpredictability, in that you never know when the next drop is coming, so the anticipation is always enjoyable.
As with most tower rides, riders may get a tingly sensation in their stomach, otherwise known as butterflies, which is excellent training for our bigger attractions!
Ultimate Tip: Don’t follow the herd and make Trauma Tower your first ride of the day to beat the crowds.
Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be over 1.1m. Customers with excessive height or chest measurements may struggle to access this attraction.

SKYRIDER
A beautifully decorated attraction, many guests refer to Skyrider as the “chair swings”, which is a very accurate and fitting description. Offering a far superior ride experience than many customers expect, Skyrider is a firm favorite with thrill seekers of all ages, providing an awesome mix of speed, height and air time.
Ultimate Tip: Don’t wait in the Skyrider queue early in the morning – head back to the fairground at lunchtime when waiting times are usually minimal in this area of the park.
Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be over 1.2m. Customers with excessive height or chest measurements may struggle to access this attraction.

BLACK WIDOW’S WEB
This mega ride has been resident at Lightwater Valley since the 2001 season and remains extremely popular with guests of all ages.
Riders sit inside individual gondolas, which begin to rotate slowly clockwise and are forced outwards as they gain momentum. Whilst spinning the large central arm then raises the widow’s web up, taking the ride to a vertical position.
Going completely upside down, the rider’s body weight and forces are equalized, which results in the rider feeling weightless throughout the ride.
Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be over 1.5m (over 1.3m accompanied by an adult)

THE TWISTER
This spinning roller coaster gives an awesome, fun-packed experience for all the family, with passengers boarding a strange waltzer-shaped ride car and heading on an epic ascent to the treetops!
The track is full of seriously tight turns, giving riders the impression that they might not make it around the next corner, with the threat of plummeting into the treetops being a constant source of tension for parents (and amusement for the kids)! With serious amounts of anticipation, tight turns and swift drops, watch out for the ride cars unhooking on the lower level as the spinning steps up a gear.
Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be over 1.5m (over 1.2m accompanied by an adult)

POWDER KEGS
For the uninitiated, a powder keg is a barrel of gunpowder that was the primary method for storing and transporting large quantities of black powder up until the 1870s and the adoption of the modern cased bullet. The kegs always had to be handled with care, since a spark or other source of heat could cause the contents to deflagrate (burn rapidly with great intensity). As such, this attraction has the potential to be one of the more explosive rides, assaulting the pirate senses with a fast, spinning and sometimes dizzying experience.
Located within Skeleton Cove, when the ride is activated, the platform rotates and the hubs rotate in the opposite direction to the platform. The combination of the platform slope, hub movement, and weight displacement within the cars cause them to rock back and forth, the oblique join mount and the motion of the ride allowing the cars to rotate through 360°.

Ride Restrictions: Passengers must be over 1.3m (1.2m accompanied by an adult)
